Democratic Procedures

A catalog of democratic procedure types that can be implemented within Governance Engines. Each procedure is a building block that can be combined with Circles and Spheres and data objects to create complex governance structures.

Allows any member to suggest a new idea or plan for consideration. Triggered by a member submitting a proposal; all members can participate in reviewing and voting.

Enables members to make collective decisions on proposals or issues. Can use various voting mechanisms from simple majority to weighted voting (see Value Networks).

A public message distributed through the system — similar to a tweet but routed intelligently. Allows members to express their views on a proposal or issue for consideration.

Selects individuals for specific roles or positions. Triggered by a position becoming vacant or a term ending. All members can participate in voting for candidates.

A direct vote where all members decide on a specific issue, bypassing representative structures.

Provides a platform for resolving disputes and enforcing rules. A panel of judges or all members could participate. Related to Social Smart Contracts dispute resolution.

Resolves disputes within the organization through mediators or arbitration panels.

Allows removal of an individual from authority due to misconduct or failure, triggered when a recall petition meets threshold support.

A smaller group elected to make decisions on behalf of all members.

A smaller group assigned to focus on a specific task or issue.

A group formed to work on a specific task or project.

A temporary group set up to achieve a specific goal or solve a specific problem.

A group jointly overseeing the activities of an organization, handling strategic decisions and governance duties.

A group of experts providing advice and recommendations on specific issues.

Assigns decision-making authority to a smaller group or individual.

A gathering of all members to discuss and make decisions on important matters.

An informal public meeting for discussing matters of importance.

Allows members to express their stance on an issue and gather support through signatures.

Gathers public opinion or feedback on a particular issue or policy.

Regular meetings held by representatives with the members they represent.

Creates, reviews, and updates policies of the organization.

Defines the organization’s strategy or direction and makes decisions on resource allocation.

Plans the organization’s financial resources and monitors their use.

Reviews operations, decisions, and records to ensure transparency and compliance.

Creates and modifies the guiding documents and principles of the organization. All members can participate in proposing changes and voting on them.

Allows for changes or additions to existing rules or policies.

Allows formation of alliances between different groups to achieve common goals. Related to Tribe Unification Protocol.

An attempt to influence decisions made by officials or decision-makers within the governance structure.
